This course will provide a broad introduction to contemporary education policy centered on issues of race/ethnicity. This course introduces the application of economic analysis and the critical skills necessary to think about education reform. The course is designed to develop students' abilities to examine, analyze and critique education policies, education policy-making, and education policy implementation. The course will analyze major education policy debates such as school desegregation, school finance, school accountability and standards, school resources, school choice/charter schools, student discipline, educator policies (quality, diversity, certification), special education, and college entrance. This is an intensive-reading, writing, and discussion class. |
