Advanced Scene Study: Impulse, Action, Intention-Using the Stage as Canvas

This studio course will explore how an actor uses text analysis, physicality, movement techniques, and acting methodologies to inform and illuminate work on plays with heightened movement, language, or theatrical landscapes. We will dive into this conversation via longer-form scene work, readings, and physical exercises (including Viewpoints and Linklater with introductions to Laban Movement Analysis, Contact Improvisation, and Meisner/Williamson Technique). Writers who may be studied include Caryl Churchill, Christopher Durang, María Irene Fornés, Adrienne Kennedy, David Henry Hwang, Bertolt Brecht, Federico García Lorca, Charles Mee, George Bernard Shaw, Sophie Treadwell, Tennessee Williams, among others.
