Analyzing Music Videos
FILM 398
Fall 2025
| Section:
01
|
Music videos are fascinating objects. One can think of them as marketing assets. However, they can also be very experimental. While movies tend to foreground the visual, music videos typically begin with a song. In this class, we will think critically with and about music videos. We will discuss music video history, directors, styles, sound-image relations, and the star. Some of the artists and directors we will cover include Michael Jackson, Prince, Beyonce, Rihanna, Hype Williams, Michel Gondry, Dave Meyers, Hiro Murai, and Kahlil Joseph. |
