This course will provide students with the knowledge and some tools to solve problems in neurobiology. Topics covered include a fundamental review of neurobiology and approaches in neuroscience research methods, behavioral studies, tissue/cell preparation, and histology/microscopy. Students will learn how the applications of advanced neuroscience techniques have answered fundamental questions in neurobiology and neurophysiology. Modern approaches and their applications will be discussed, including behavioral studies, tissue preparation and analysis, histology, and microscopy. The learning outcomes will be assessed by a project, oral presentation of the project, written laboratory class reports (lab notebooks), and a lab practicum. |

Examinations and Assignments: : Late Lab Report (Notebook): Report in lab notebook after every lab class. Every student must have their own lab notebook. Reports must contain the title of the class, hypothesis, material and methods, expected results, results, and conclusion. An automatic 10% penalty will be assessed for any late Lab report. Reports more than 1 week late will not be accepted and a zero will be given for that assignment.
Attendance: Students are expected to attend class and laboratory in order to obtain information and concepts that will be covered in lectures, written lab reports, and lab practicum. Attendance will be taken. Please do NOT attend class if you are feeling sick! We will make alternative arrangements.
Project: In groups, students are expected to write a project by the end of the course using knowledge of methods learned during the course.
Oral presentation: In groups, students are expected to present the project in an oral presentation during the class.
Exam Make-up Policy: Students who are unable to complete an exam during the designated time due to illness, personal circumstance, religious observance, or university-sponsored event are expected to make an alternative arrangement in advance with the TAs (CC¿ Professors).
Additional Reading: Students are expected to read the assigned text to complement and reinforce concepts covered in class, and any additional reference material or handouts distributed on Moodle or in class. |
