Art and Ecology, 1960s to the Present
ARHA 360
Fall 2026
Section: 01
Crosslisting: ENVS 360

This seminar examines the place of ecological thinking in modern and contemporary art since the 1960s. Through a series of case studies, we will explore a range of approaches, from works investigating systems of interconnecting flows binding the living and non-living, to interventions that more directly confront ecological destruction and climate emergency. Projects of activist immediacy will be considered alongside works of more distanced aesthetic experimentation, across a range of modalities including lens-based media, performance, painting, site-specificity, and sculpture.
