Introduction to Lie Theory MATH 285 Fall 2024 Section: 01   Lie theory is a fundamental area of mathematics, with many applications to physics and other sciences. In this course, we will study the basics of elementary Lie theory. This course will focus on matrix groups, which have concrete descriptions and include all of the Lie groups that commonly arise in applications. Topics covered in this class will include the algebra and topology of matrix groups, Lie algebras, matrix exponentiation, and applications.
