This course will explore hybrid approaches to performance that combine live coding with analog electronics. SuperCollider and its extensions will be our live coding environment. Analog approaches will include both synthesizers (Arp 2600, Moog Modular), homemade/home modified electronics devices drawn from the David Tudor Collection of Electronic Instruments, and Instrumentation and other devices prototyped in class. Coursework will center on collaborations with classmates with complementary backgrounds and skills. To that end, this class is open to anyone who can demonstrate background in any one of the following areas: experimental music composition, sound production, performance video, computer programming, or electronic circuitry. Students interested in the course will be asked to provide a statement about their background and the nature of their interest in the course. |
