CLST 150
Spring 2025
| Section:
01
|
This "lab" course will primarily focus on creative translation from Greek and Latin erotic poetry read in the parent course as an application of translation theory from the course, and as a direct encounter with Greek and Latin language. All levels of ancient language will be accommodated, and students do not need to know both or any ancient languages to participate--they may also choose to translate into their own native language, or another language with which they have familiarity. The course will be taught in English, and all students will be introduced to ancient languages as needed, and supported in their translation activities at all levels.
This CLAC will bring together traditional ancient language pedagogy and critical translation theory in creative literary translation. We will also invite practicing translators and scholars across Wesleyan's faculty to join our discussions on literature in translation as a practice and an object of study. |
