How do we understand the phenomena of Trumpism? What are the ideas that have inspired this movement? This course attempts to provide answers by looking at the origins and evolution of US conservatism from 1945 until the present. It does so through the prism of intellectual history -- namely by focusing on the ideas and ideology that have constituted the conservatism movement in the US for roughly the last eighty years. Topics to be discussed include: Neoliberalism, Neo-conservatism, America First, Paleoconservatism, the Religious Right, American Fascism, Trumpism, etc. |
