This course attempts to provide answers by looking at the origins and evolution of US conservatism from 1945 until the present. It does so through the prism of intellectual history -- namely by focusing on the ideas and ideology that have constituted the conservatism movement in the US for roughly the last eighty years. Topics to be discussed include: Neoliberalism, Neo-conservatism, America First, Paleoconservatism, the Religious Right, American Fascism, Trumpism, etc.
