Symmetry and Its Applications in Chemistry
CHEM 369
Fall 2025
Section: 01

Symmetry concepts pervade science and lead to fundamental new insights. In chemistry, symmetry is central to understanding spectroscopy, electronic structure, and reactivity. We will develop a relatively sophisticated group theoretical approach to molecular symmetry and its applications in understanding chemical systems. Specific topics will range from relatively simple predictions of chirality to implications for reaction mechanisms to understanding how orbital and spin angular momenta couple and influence molecular properties.
