|
This advanced technique-based Afro-Brazilian course will build upon embodied knowledge gained in Afro-Brazilian I (DANC205) and Afro-Brazilian II (DANC210). Students who have prior experience in Afro-Brazilian dance, or West African dance may also consider this course. Evaluation for the course will be based on class participation, participation in the Worlds of Dance Concert, and a short journal due at the end of semester. Students will also be responsible for learning basic Portuguese words and phrases, learning contemporary choreographic investigations created by the instructor and will be guided through processes of improvisation in creating their own phrases. This advanced course is designed to continue students' knowledge and understanding of the technique, culture, and history of Afro-Brazilian dance as a means for preserving cultural legacy. As an advanced course, it will move rapidly. |
