This integrative, hands-on course is open only to Global Engagement Minors selected through the fall application process. Building on CGST 205: Introduction to Global Engagement, it combines Swahili language study, regional analysis, and an immersive spring break engagement with an educational NGO in Nairobi, Kenya. Framed within the broader East African education landscape, the course introduces key historical, cultural, and contemporary dynamics of the region, with particular attention to youth-led movements shaping present-day Nairobi and the role of the Kenya Education Fund. Students connect this context to their own interests by designing and implementing a micro-project during the trip. Through language study, fieldwork, and post-travel reflection, students critically examine their experiences, strengthening their intercultural competence and deepening their global perspective. |
