This course focuses on how to conduct and evaluate empirical political science research. It is specifically designed for first-year and sophomore students who are intending to major in Government. Topics covered include generating research questions, reviewing and synthesizing existing research, designing research studies, and qualitative and quantitative approaches to studying political phenomena. Students will also be introduced to different datasets political scientists use to answer research questions in the American, comparative, and international relations subfields and learn the basics of working with quantitative data. In addition to preparing students to engage in their own research projects, the course better equips students to think critically and productively about research evidence in political science and popular media discussions of politics. |
