CHIN 207Z
Summer 2026
| Section:
01
|
This course introduces students to Classical Chinese, the written language of ancient China that has profoundly influenced the development of contemporary Chinese. Many idioms, proverbs, and grammatical structures in today's Chinese can be traced directly back to Classical Chinese, and its texts embody traditional Chinese thought and culture that continue to shape Chinese society today. Through the reading and analysis of selected classical texts, students will gain a deeper understanding of both the linguistic roots and the cultural foundations of modern Chinese. The course is taught primarily in Chinese. Students must have completed CHIN 206 or above to enroll. Those who have not taken a Chinese language course at Wesleyan must contact the instructor and take a Chinese placement test. |
