This course applies concepts, theories, and practices from the field of environmental psychology to address human-environment interactions and their implications for sustainable environments. We will utilize social-ecological approaches to help shed light on current environmental issues as well as exploring strategies and practices to help mitigate environmental challenges and promote sustainability in the context of real-world problems as well as our own environmentally related behaviors and emotions. Moreover, working in collaboration with the Wesleyan Office of Sustainability, we will work to integrate our learning with supporting ongoing efforts at realizing greater sustainability on our campus and surrounding community. This course is designed as an advanced seminar and will center student voice and participation throughout the semester. In addition, we will integrate two main projects across the course: 1. Sustainable Self-Change Project; and 2. Sustainable Wesleyan Project. Both projects aim to analyze, evaluate, and develop strategies and skills for realizing just and sustainable lives, communities, and environments. |
