|
In this intensive course, students will examine contemporary research about early child development, education, policy, and practice. Course topics will be driven by current debates in the field, the interests of the group, and the questions that naturally emerge from the practicum placement experience. Such topics include: assessment and documentation of learning in early childhood settings; the unique functions of exploratory play in human learning and development; curriculum design and developmentally appropriate practice; the child-care work force; and the role of government and politics in ECE. In addition to reading primary sources and working within early childhood classrooms, we will benefit from conversations with experts actively working to integrate research, practice, and policy.
Students will spend a minimum of 2 hours per week working in an early childhood education (ECE) setting, such as a preschool, infant/toddler room, or early elementary class. |
