The Study of Literature

This course will introduce students to the careful reading of texts and will familiarize them with the idea of literature as a part of history and culture.

Essential Capabilities: Interpretation
In this course, we will learn to discern the variety of ways a text can "mean," and we will write almost weekly papers. We will learn to craft a thesis statement and the proper way to purse an analytical argument.
