Course Cluster: Christianity Studies

This course provides an introduction to the European Middle Ages, and is recommended prior to more advanced work. It covers Western Europe from the end of the Roman republic and the rise of Christianity to the eve of the Protestant Reformation (so to circa 1500). A central theme will be the place and function of religions in Rome, then in the political formations that followed it. Every fourth class will be devoted to a discussion of the primary sources.
