Students should have a Japanese-English character dictionary, a basic Japanese-Japanese dictionary, and a good Japanese-English and English-Japanese dictionary.

Frequent assignments in reading comprehension and essay writing. Conversation project. Quizzes on vocabulary and Kanji, midterm and final examinations.

Students who have not taken JAPN217 at Wesleyan will be required to take a placement test. Attendance and active participation every class and weekly TA sessions are required.
