Third-Year Japanese II|
This course introduces selected readings from a range of texts. Oral exercises, discussion, and essays in Japanese.
This course is designed to enhance students' Japanese skills for:
-reading authentic texts on social issues written for adult learners,
-writing social and cultural analysis essays,
-participating in various types of discourse, and
-situation-appropriate communication with greater fluency, accuracy and grammatical complexity.

(1) Course packet (newspaper and magazine articles, essays, and listening comprehension materials for movies), and
(2) Japanese-English character dictionary, a basic Japanese-Japanese dictionary, and a good Japanese-English and English-Japanese dictionary

There are frequent homework assignments, which include reading comprehension, essay writing, and conversation project. Both midterm and final examinations are given, and weekly quizzes cover vocabulary.

Students who have not taken JAPN217 at Wesleyan are required to take a placement test. Attendance and active participation in every class and weekly TA sessions are required.
