This introduction to the elements of fiction and a range of authors is for people who want to write and through writing, increase their understanding and appreciation of a variety of short stories.

Fiction by authors such as Jorge Luis Borges, Jane Bowles, Raymond Carver, Guy Davenport, Lydia Davis, Steven Millhauser, Mary Robinson, Joy WIlliams, and others.
|Examinations and Assignments: |
Responses to assigned readings, occasional exercises, two short stories, one revision, and a final presentation of work. Attendance at every class required. There is a workshop component to this course so participating in class discussions is essential.

Students will also be required to attend fiction readings (usually 2-3 per semester).
