Memory in the Movies
PSYC 321
Spring 2008
Section: 01

Human memory is frequently portrayed in film but it is frequently portrayed incorrectly. This seminar is designed to show how memory works, and it will serve as a complement to PSYC/NS&B221: Human Memory. The weekly topics parallel those covered in PSYC221, but the focus is shifted. Whereas PSYC221 provides an in-depth overview of human memory by examining research in psychology journals, PSYC321 provides coverage of these topics through major films and documentaries. Each week, two films or documentaries will illustrate a different aspect of memory, followed by a discussion based on our understanding of memory research. PSYC321 is not a course about film; it is a course about memory that uses film to inform viewers about memory.

Essential Capabilities: Writing
Writing Capability: Writing is the primary basis for evaluation. This course requires an essay every two weeks and a final project at the end of the semester relating memory and film.
