Political Theologies: Contemporary Christian Engagement in the Public Sphere
RELI 291
Spring 2008
Section: 01

This course will explore 20th- and 21st-century efforts to bring Christian theology and practice into critical conversation with the political sphere. What role have Christian discourses - both liberal and conservative - played or tried to play in shaping and criticizing public policy? What role should they play? This class functions as a thematic and historical continuation of RELI220 (Modern Christian Thought), but is open to all who are interested. Major themes to be explored include poverty, war, race, gender, and the putative separation of church and state.
