The Personal Eye

This course is intended for both fiction and creative non-fiction writers who would like to explore the many ways of developing a first-person voice in their prose. We will write personal essays, feature pieces, travel essays, memoirs, portraits, first-person narrative fiction, opinion pieces, and, time allowing, review articles and journals. Students will be asked to submit a 500-word prose piece essay every week, in addition to a much longer semester "project," a draft of which will be handed in during the midterm period and final version during finals.
