This research seminar will consider the cultural and intellectual history of New York City in the 1940s. Special attention will be given to the way New York's artists and intellectuals led the United States' transition to the post-World War II era.

Essential Capabilities: Interpretation, Writing
It's a writing course because the students will do a research paper and several short assignments, with revision. It's an interpretation course because students will be asked to interpret the significance of historical events and cultural artifacts.
