Religion and Politics: Faith and Power in Comparative-Historical Perspective

This course examines the relationship between religion and politics historically and in the contemporary world, and across diverse religious traditions. We discuss the relationship of religion to the rise of the modern state, church-state relations, religious social movements and the sources of religious conflict and violence.
