Course Cluster and Certificates: Writing Certificate |
Designed for first-year students, this course is an introduction to some of the core fundamentals of visual storytelling. How do characters' emotional worlds guide their actions? How are characters informed by and created by the places they inhabit? How is a scene the building block, as well as a microcosm, for a film as a whole? Through close study and analysis of a wide variety of short and feature-length coming of age films, weekly writing assignments, and in-class writing workshop sessions, students will explore the power and possibilities of story craft and learn how to create compelling short film narratives. Students should expect to spend several hours per week outside of class time reading, writing, and watching films, including six Monday evening screenings. Over the course of the semester students will present works in progress, participate in constructive critical discussions, and develop a portfolio of original writing. |
