Introduction to Modern African American History

This class will examine African American history from 1877 to the present. Central themes will include the post-Reconstruction period, Jim Crown, urbanization, migration, persistent institutionalized discrimination in education and the legal system, as well as key social justice movements such as the Civil Rights Movement and black power.
