A continuation of BIOL205, this course will begin with transmission genetics including linkage, recombinational mapping, and chromosomal aberrations. We will then introduce the foundations of the current revolution in molecular genetics and genome analysis, discussing human gene mapping and developmental genetics. The second half of the course will use the foundation of cell biology and genetics to introduce the development of multicellular organisms. We will address the question of how cells develop and maintain different identities and functions in different tissues, beginning with gametogenesis and fertilization and proceeding through gastrulation and organogenesis. |
