Spring 2010 not offered
Crosslisting: NS&B 249

Basic and integrative processes of nervous systems are considered with attention to their roles in species-typical behaviors. Initial consideration of cellular properties of individual nerve cells, synaptic interactions and neuroanatomy forms the basis for studying systems of neurons and their behavioral significance during the remainder of the semester. The focus is on the neuronal basis of naturalistic behaviors in animals from mollusks and insects through fish, birds and mammals. Topics include sensory transduction, central processing of sensory information, production and control of patterned behavior, sensory basis of orienting and navigation and sensory-motor integration.
