An overview of some major global trends since World War II, along with some provocative theories devised to explain them. Topics may include decolonization, the Cold War, secularization in the West, the growth of Christianity and Islam, the human rights revolution, globalization, and the shift of power from West to East. Specific countries and regions will be studied, among them (possibly) South Africa, Southeast Asia, India, and China.
