|Major Readings: Wesleyan RJ Julia Bookstore
This course is the latest in a series called "writing about places," that explore the long tradition of writing about travel and places and changing attitudes toward crossing cultural borders. This spring's course focuses on writings and films about food and foodways across various cultural traditions. Writing assignments will include critical and analytical essays, and will encourage students to examine their own experiences with places, cuisines, cultural traditions and encounters. Specific readings and films TBA.
|Examination and Assignments: |
Approximately a book a week, weekly writing assignments (reading responses and others), 3 more extensive papers. In this seminar course, students (in pairs) will be responsible for leading class discussion twice during the semester.
