This course explores major themes and competing theoretical paradigms in United States women's history. Women's familial, social, economic, and political roles will be examined with comparative attention to class, race, and ethnicity. Special attention will be paid to ideas about female citizenship and the development of feminist politics in the 19th and 20th centuries.
