This course aims to develop the four language skills (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) by addressing a variety of topics, including convenient things, history, traditional crafts, and nature of Japan. Students will also learn various strategies in conversation: conveying information, talking about past events, explaining how things are made, and extending one's dialogue. Lesson 10-Lesson 13 from the textbook "Tobira" will be covered and 141 additional kanji will be introduced. |

Daily written assignments, quizzes, lesson tests, oral interviews, final project, weekly one-on-one meeting with an assigned native speaker for conversation practice. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Attendance and active participation in every class and at least 5 hours of Japanese language table are required. Students who have not completed JAPN217 at Wesleyan are required to take a placement test. (Friday class time may be changed by class concensus before the end of drop add) Students are strongly encouraged to continue their studies in Japanese. If you encounter any partial scheduling conflicts with other courses (e.g., having a class that overlaps with Japanese once a week), please contact the instructor as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to accommodate such conflicts. |
