This course may be repeated for credit. |
Students may learn mridangam, the barrel-shaped drum; kanjira, the frame drum; or konnakkol, spoken rhythm. All are used in the performance of classical South Indian music and dance. Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of technique and will study the formation of phrases with stroke combinations. Advanced classes will be a continuation of lessons in a variety of talas. Individual classes are supplemented by a weekly group section. |
