Philosophy of Mind
PHIL 286
Fall 2006 not offered

This course will be devoted to an examination of several questions about the nature of the mind, such as the relationship between mind and body, the ontological status of the mind and the nature of our access to mental states. 20th century approaches to the mind, including behaviorism, reductive and eliminative materialism, functionalism, artificial intelligence and cognitive science, will be examined against a backdrop of Cartesian assumptions about the nature of the mind and our ways of knowing it.
