This course introduces students to the contents of the Hebrew Bible, known in some Christian traditions as the Old Testament. It examines its major themes, structures and genres and investigates the various sources and traditions of the Ancient Near East which shaped the Bible over the long period of its production. By surveying a range of modern methodologies, including source criticism, genre criticism, the historical-critical school and redaction criticism, this course is aimed towards providing students with tools for reading the Hebrew Bible critically and interpreting its contents.
