Sociological Analysis

This course is an introduction to the major components of sociological analysis: the language of sociological inquiry, research techniques and methodology, types of explanation, and the relationship between theory and research.

Essential Capabilities: Logical Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning
We will study how careful attention to issues of causality, measurement validity, and generalizability can help improve sociological analysis. In addition, we will learn basic descriptive and inferential statistics. Last, we will learn how to use qualitative data to critique and develop theories.
