This course investigates the intertwining of cultural and medical practices that shape the lived experiences and meanings of human health. Issues of health are, quite literally, matters of life and death. Questions of who thrives, who gets sick, who dies and how we make sense of these questions also constitute core questions for social justice. Drawing on provocative readings and media from diverse fields, this course will investigate these questions with an emphasis on how answers to them might contribute to social justice and improve the conditions necessary for human thriving. |
