In this basic and practical introduction to the work of a director, topics to be considered will include the director's analysis of text, research, working with actors, blocking, rehearsal procedures, and directorial style. |

Exercises and scenes to be rehearsed outside the class and presented in class. 2-3 short papers. Final project. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
This class is a requirement for students who wish to direct for credit or with Theater Department sponsorship. Preference will be given to theater majors. Taking THEA 280 Script Analysis prior to THEA 281 is strongly recommended. Admission to studio, performance, project and tutorial courses in theater is at the discretion of individual instructors, who take into account estimated talent, experience and the need to form balanced and effective working ensembles.
On Saturday, February 4th, the instructor and directing students will audition prospective students for Directed Experiences in Acting. Auditions will run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm in the East Room. There will be no class on Friday, February 10th. |
