The Collegium Musicum (literally "company of musicians") is a vocal performance ensemble dedicated to exploring and performing the diverse European repertories of medieval, renaissance, and baroque music. Emphasis is given to the study of musical styles, performance practices, vocal independence, healthy singing, and musicianship. Students investigate various cultural aspects of the production of music, including primary sources, acoustics, and cultural heritage. Outreach projects include singing with and for seniors. |

Examinations and Assignments:
Assessment is based on completion of readings, listening assignments, mandatory attendance at all rehearsals (class and sectionals) and performances, individual progress as singers, musicianship development, and creative engagement. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Only returning ensemble members may pre-register without an interview/audition.
New students need to meet with Prof. Jane Alden by January 25th to discuss their background/interest in the course. Please contact Alden jalden01@wesleyan.edu to arrange an interview/audition by January 25th.
AUDITIONS:
Students should email Prof. Jane Alden (jalden01@wesleyan.edu) with a statement of interest in the course. Include details of background in singing and voice work in general by January 25th. Curiosity about cross-generational work and effective music therapy will be an advantage, due to the Service-Learning component of the course.

The plan for the semester will be discussed, there will be some singing and a Q&A . The syllabi will be distributed and sectional times will be arranged.
This course may be repeated. Undergraduate students may take this course two times for a grade and up to four times for credit towards graduation.
