|Course Cluster: Queer Studies|
This course examines choreography and its performance as an embodied experience. Students will research a theme-specific topic and participate in the creation of a contemporary work under the direction, guidance, and mentorship of a faculty choreographer. The class will serve as a laboratory for experimenting with the performance techniques and evolving methodologies of the teaching artist, preparing the student for the practice of embodied research. The work will use video projections. The course culminates in the performance of the work developed during the semester of study.

Students will be evaluated according to their ability to contribute to the collective research of the group and for the quality of participation throughout the creative process. Creative problem solving, memorization of material, rhythmic and spatial awareness, and performance skills necessary to the development of a mature artist will guide all work undertaken in class.

Daily Attendance, assigned readings, and projects specific to the research theme undertaken by the faculty artist developing the work. Required attendance at all technical rehearsals

A minimum of introductory level experience in any movement form, or a special art skill.
Students will participate in the choreographic process developing such performance skills as movement memory, concentration, phrasing, expressivity, and accuracy. The course will culminate in the performance of a faculty-choreographed work loosely based on the social project of early modern dance, which aimed to awaken and restore the senses, at a time similar to ours, when mechanization threaten to dehumanize social relations and estrange wo/man from the earth.
