This upper-level seminar is intended to prepare history students for advanced research in the field of queer studies, the history of gender, and the history of sexuality. It is also designed as a historical methods course for students interested in interdisciplinary research. Using a comparative perspective, the course will situate the production of embodied identities in the history of race, politics, and ideas and will offer a special focus on the emerging field of transgender studies. This course is designed for students who are developing research in queer, trans, feminist, or sexuality studies. Seniors may only enroll in this course if they are completing a senior essay or research requirement that is relevant to the course material; seniors should see instructor during preregistration for permission to enroll.
