This course examines the causes and consequences of cross-border flows of goods and services. We will investigate different theories of international trade and discuss the empirical validity of their predictions. Particular emphasis will also be placed on the motives for countries to restrict or regulate trade, and the institutional arrangements governing the world trading system. Moreover, we will discuss how trade between countries can shape economic development. Current events concerned with international trade are also discussed.
