This course explores the history of US environmental regulation. We will examine the key features of policy and administration in each major area of environmental policy. Moreover, we will examine several alternatives to public regulation, including free market environmentalism and association- and standards-based self regulation. Although the course focuses primarily on U.S. environmental policy, at various point in the course we will draw both on comparative examples and the challenges associated with coordinating national policies and practices on an international level. |
