This seminar is required for all senior sociocultural anthropology majors who intend to write honors theses and is very strongly recommended for those writing senior essays. It is designed to enable students to pursue individual research projects in a group context and with attention to debates on the nature of anthropological interpretation. Students will be expected to give a series of presentations on their own research to the group and to engage critically with the presentations of others. |

Essential Capabilities:
Students develop skills in the interpretation of socio-cultural phenomena through analysis of projects based on fieldwork and/or library research. Class discussions will also engage with issues in the ethics of anthropological research.

Examinations and Assignments:
A weekly research journal, class presentations, literature review, project abstract, and draft of a thesis chapter or essay by the end of the semester. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
This course substitutes for and should be taken in place of a fall semester thesis/essay tutorial (ANTH409). |
