This course will consider the privileging of the conceptual - as opposed to the retinal - in art after 1969, and the international employment of non-traditional media such as words in the usual arts of the period. It will also investigate how a generation of artists trained in universities may have used that critical training in their work, and how the political unrest of the late 1960's and 1970's may have played a role in the development of conceptual art. |
