Performance Studies

THEA 316
Spring 2013
Section: 01
Crosslisting: RELI 385
Certificates: Social, Cultural, and Critical Theory

Within the frame of performance studies, this seminar focuses on how particular uses of the body, space, and narrative inform the limits and intersections between ritual and theater, acting theories, and audience reception. Performance is broadly defined to include cultural events and nontraditional performances. We will look at a number of theoretical texts as well as case studies, performances, and theories to examine theatrical modes of action and presence, as well as the limits between real and fictional.
