This course continues the kind of work taken on in ITAL221, but with different texts and varied perspectives. The course is designed for students who have completed at least two years of college-level Italian or who have achieved equivalent competency through study in Italy. Our primary objective is to enhance reading, writing, speaking skills through exposure to a variety of literary genres and artistic styles, from the medieval era to today, from the traditional NOVELLA to the modern novel (ROMANZO), and cinema. We will include different kinds of languages and jargons, such as movie scripts, newspapers, bureaucratic forms, and Internet sites, etc. |

Examinations and Assignments:
1. Weekly essays (at least 2 pages). Essays will be graded for both grammar and content or complexity.
2. Weekly esercitazioni with the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) at a time to be determined during the first week of class but which will be either Tuesday or Thursday.
3. The Italian conversation hour is not mandatory, but it is strongly recommended, especially for students who will spend their spring semester in Bologna. |
Additional Requirements and/or Comments:
Please note: this course is intended for students who have either completed ITAL112 or placed beyond it. It is designed for students who have studied in Italy at a) a program other than ECCO and/or b) on the ECCO Program but did not take a course at UniBo. Contact the instructor in the even of questions concerning the appropriateness of enrollment. Students will meet with the Course Assistant/Foreign Language TA once weekly for 50 minutes. This schedule will be devised the first week of class, but it is almost certain that the esercitazione will meet on either Tuesdays or Thursdays. Students will be expected to participate actively in class. They will also be expected to attend various extra sessions (screenings, esercitazioni, conversation hours) that are designed to maximize their exposure to spoken Italian. |
