| Course Cluster: Urban Studies |
This course will investigate urbanism and the built environment through the lens of the current discourse on sustainability. Students will research and study contemporary case studies of cities that have suffered from a form of collapse; analyze the interactions that led to the demise of specific infrastructures; and project a city's future through methods and techniques of urban analysis and representation including drawings, maps, and diagrams. |

Major Readings:
Assigned readings and case studies will be used to situate the studio assignment within a broader discussion of urbanism and sustainability.

Students are expected to attend all class sessions. Previous experience with visual media and/or coursework in the Urban Studies cluster is preferred but NOT required. Selection by interview with Professor Hsiang. Please email joyce.hsiang@yale.edu with statement of interest in the course.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday, September 6 from 11am-2pm in Art Studio North 104. Sign up list is posted outside 104/105. Please bring a written statement of interest and, if available, work samples from previous experiences with design or visual media. A list of accepted students will be emailed Tuesday evening before the first day of class Wednesday morning. |
